“Still Life Drawing” Part 3

In “Still Life Drawing” Part 2 we isolated the darkest and lightest Values and drew them in. The next step is to use your Value Finder and locate the middle values. *It is very important you identify the texture and the technique you plan on using to lay in your Value. In the pictures below, I will identify the texture and suggested method to achieve the best results.

Texture– The bowl is shiny, smooth, and reflects like a mirror. Method– shading and blending using a stump and a stiff synthetic paint brush.
Texture– The Clementines are bumpy, shiny, and smooth. Method– circles and blend lightly in circles with a stiff synthetic paint brush.
Texture- The main knit drapery under the Still Life is soft and the knitting is clearly visible. Method- shading, hatching, and cross-hatching blend lightly with a stiff synthetic paint brush repeating the strokes and a stump to clearly define the edges.
Texture- The spoon on the table is smooth, shiny, and reflects like a mirror. Method- shading and blending using a stump for crisp edges and a stiff synthetic paint brush for the values.
Texture- The bowl with spoon is smooth, shiny, and reflects like a mirror. Method- shading and blending using a stump for crisp edges and a stiff synthetic paint brush for the values.

Texture- The handkerchief is fluffy and soft. Method– shading, hatching, and blend lightly using a paint brush.

Texture- The knit drapery is soft and the knitting is clearly visible. Method- shading, hatching, and cross-hatching blend lightly with a stiff synthetic paint brush repeating the strokes and a stump to clearly define the edges.

Texture- The wall is painted brick, rough, with a porous look. Method- stippling, circles, shading, cross-hatching, and blending with a stiff synthetic paint brush repeating the layered strokes.
