1 Point Perspective – “Room with Table”

These are the steps, using 1 Point Perspective, to draw a 3 Dimensional room.

Step 1- Draw a square. *Make sure the Vertical and Horizontal lines are Straight and equal.

Step 2- Draw a  Horizon Line about a one third down and a Vanishing Point in the center.

Step 3- Take your pencil and put it on the Vanishing Point and pivot your ruler to align it to the top point of your square and draw a line. Continue the steps to draw the other three corners.

Step 4- Connect extended lines to create a larger square.

Step 5- Pivot from the Vanishing Point to make a window/picture on the right side of the wall.

Step 6- Align your ruler using the vertical lines, already drawn, to connect the top and bottom diagonal lines to draw the window/picture. Place your pencil on the Vanishing Point and pivot with your ruler to accurately draw the inside angles on the window/picture. Connect, using your ruler, the angles with straight vertical lines.

Step 7- Put your pencil on the Vanishing Point and pivot your ruler towards the left wall and draw a line. Using the vertical lines as a guide, draw straight lines down to connect to the floor. Draw a door knob on the door.

Step 8- Draw a window on the back wall. Try to make the window even lines above and below the Horizon Line and the Vanishing Point in the middle of the window. Draw a window sill evenly spaced around the window.

Step 8- Draw a straight horizontal line right below the window. *Keep the length of the line a little smaller than the window above it. This is going to be the first line drawn to create a 3 dimensional table in the room.

Step 9- Place your pencil on the Vanishing Point and pivot your ruler to the desired angle for the table. Repeat step to draw the other side of the table.

Step 10- Again, using the horizontal lines of the room as a guide, draw a straight line connecting the angled lines to form a table. Erase the horizontal line on the floor off of the table. Draw 2 small vertical lines from the edges of the table and draw a horizontal line to connect, creating the illusion of Depth.

Step 11- Draw straight vertical lines, from the top left edge, down to begin the legs of the table. Repeat step on the other edge of the table. Draw the other side of legs using vertical lines and horizontal lines to complete the front legs of the table. Repeat steps inside to draw the back legs of the table. * Make sure the legs are shorter than the front legs to give the illusion of depth.

Step 12- Begin drawing the hardwood floors by placing your pencil on the Vanishing Point and pivoting the ruler towards the floor. Pick up your pencil and only draw the line on the floor. When the floor is blocked by the table, only draw in the areas that are in view on the floor. Complete the process until the floor is completed.

Step 13- Erase the Horizon Line and the Vanishing Point on the back wall and draw a view from the window. Sketch in a picture or another view from the window/picture on the right wall. Fine tune any pencil marks or erase unneeded ones.
